How to Strip Sealers from Tile & Stone Surfaces

Purpose

To remove sealers on or in tile or stone surfaces (coating or penetrating sealers)

Product Recommendation

Sealer & Coating Remover (Notes A, B & C)

Equipments

Scrub brush, white nylon scrub pad, AquaScrub or scrub machine and white cotton towels or sponge

Coverage

Approximately 75 – 200 sq. ft. (7 m2 – 20 m2) per gallon (3.78 L)

Procedure:

Strip Sealer1. Always test a small area first to ensure satisfactory results.
2. Sweep or vacuum surface.
3. Apply a liberal amount of undiluted Sealer & Coating Remover to a small, manageable area of up to 25 sq. ft. (2.5 m2).
4. Allow to dwell up to 1 hour without drying or until coating or residue softens. Re-apply if necessary until sealer softens and can be removed.
5. If necessary, apply additional remover or sprinkle with hot water and agitate with a scrub brush.
6. If scrub machine is used, apply hot water to surface immediately prior to scrubbing.
7. Wipe up residue with absorbent white cotton towels or sponge. A wet-dry vacuum may be used.
8. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Note A: For difficult to remove coating sealers, Aqua Mix NanoScrub® may be applied directly onto Sealer & Coating Remover immediately before scrubbing with machine.

Note B: Do not use Sealer & Coating Remover on synthetic agglomerate or other resinous surfaces.

Note C: It is important to note that the actual process of stripping may alter the appearance and texture of some soft-bodied tiles such as Tecate, Saltillo and some Terra-Cotta tiles.

This recommendation is intended as a general guideline for the removal of sealers. The actual removal requirements may vary depending on the method of application, temperature and amount of sealer to be removed.

READ PRODUCT DIRECTIONS THOROUGHLY PRIOR TO USE. ALWAYS TEST FIRST. KEEP SURFACE CLEAN AND DRY TO REDUCE POSSIBILITY OF SLIP-FALL ACCIDENTS.
